What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks are scars – they represent skin damage caused by abrupt skin stretching resulting in tearing of connective tissue – collagen and elastin fibers which allow the skin to be firm and tight. There are 2 types of stretch marks:

  • pink or red stretch marks with visible blood vessels (the first stages of formation),
  • white stretch marks, which are narrower (because as time passes, blood vessels shrink and they get more pale and narrow).

How many treatments for stretch mark removal exist?

Today, there are several treatments that, more or less successfully, reduce stretch marks, and the most common are:

  • mesotherapy (during this treatment mesococtails is placed along the stretch mark to activate the increase of collagen and elastin),
  • dermaroller (similar effect as mesotherapy),
  • carboxytherapy (medical carbon dioxide is injected into each line of stretch marks to increase tissue regeneration),
  • chemical peels
  • surgery (this method is the best solution for damaged and sagging skin)
  • laser treatment (the thermal energy of the laser beam stimulates the tissue to produce collagen and elastin, while at the same time gently peels the skin).

You will often hear that stretch marks can be completely removed, but this is not true. Modern techniques can reduce and make them less visible.

What is the most effective way to reduce stretch marks?

The laser treatment efficiently reduces the appearance of stretch marks.

White stretch marks

The “Diva” Clinic’s experts in aesthetic surgery recommend Fractional ER: Yag  laser as effective treatment of white (older) stretch marks. The laser beam encourages the skin to produce NEW collagen and elastin, without affecting the surrounding tissue, which makes the skin smoother, firmer and more elastic after treatment.

Fractional laser beam makes microscopic wounds deep in the skin, exactly where stretch marks are created allowing the surface tissue to regenerate within 24 hours, while at the same time stimulating the formation of elastin and collagen in the deeper skin layers. Gently skin peel by laser additionally diminishes the visibility of stretch marks.

In this way, the thickening of the skin is achieved in places where stretch marks are located – where it has become thinner. During series of treatments that last 2 to 4 months, stretch marks are reduced 50% to 60% (which all depends on the skin type, the patient’s age and health in general, as well as the type of stretch marks).

It is not recommended tanning of the treated region between treatments.

Pink or red stretch marks

The “Diva” Clinic’s experts in aesthetic surgery recommend D light SR and Lumecca laser for treating pink or red (young) stretch marks. This laser eliminates 70% – 90%of pink / red stretch marks and that is why it is important to start treatment as soon as they occur.

What are the benefits of treating stretch marks with a fractional ER: Yag laser?

The procedure for removing stretch marks with an ER: Yag laser, used by experts in plastic surgery and dermatology, is:

  • simple
  • PAINLESS (thanks to contact cooling system)
  • comfortable
  • fast
  • safe and
  • without a recovery period.

These are all the reasons why patients choose this treatment for reducing stretch marks.

How does laser stretch mark removal look like, and how long does it take?

During the laser treatment we are using forced air cooling system, so there is no overheating or pain during the treatment. The patient will feel mild heat and burning sensation in the skin, but everything disappears within 24 hours. And this is why no additional therapy is required after the procedure. The treatment itself lasts for about half an hour.

How many treatments are needed to reduce stretch marks?

Usually,2 to 4 treatments are needed, and sessions are 4 to 6 weeks apart. The exact number of treatments depends on skin type and thickness, as well as on the width of stretch marks. The full effect is visible 2 months after the last treatment.

NOTE:

Whether this procedure is the right choice for a particular skin type and condition will be assessed by a specialist doctor during free consultations, and according to that, they will suggest an appropriate procedure. The number of treatments needed is individual and depends on several factors.

The results of the procedure can vary from patient to patient, and this is influenced by several factors including genetics, hormonal status, and the lifestyle of each individual.
